Just starting out in disc golf?
When you come to our events you are instantly greeted like family. We understand how hard it can be just to get started in disc golf, but we are here to help guide you.
Our disc golf pro shop has everything you need to succeed with a great selection of discs, bags, accessories and apparel. Ask any member of our crew and they can give you our calendar of tournaments and leagues. If you can’t make it out to the Dellwood shop, just message us, we are here everyday of the week.
Tournament vs. league
The decision between these two can be tough. You don’t have to do one or the other first, but if you start out by playing in a league you might get a better idea of what division to play in for a tournament just by talking to our staff or other people in the crowd (Disc Golf is all about the camaraderie).
We currently host three different leagues: Dellwood Bag Tags, Hellwood, and Dellwood After Dark (a glow league). You can also find other leagues in the surrounding area. The J-Town Disc Golf Club is the longest running league in the Joliet area and you can find more about their schedules on the Greater Joliet Disc Golf Facebook page.
Signs ups for our leagues are the day of the event, there is no pre-registration and they can be singles our doubles (random draw partner). Bag Tags are always singles because you are competing for an individual tag (see photo below, all of the tags are numbered and the object is to get a lower tag number).
Tournament days can feel a little bit more intense, majority of our events are PDGA sanctioned. If the event is sanctioned and you are a PDGA member, you will get a discount with registration for the tournament. You will also get a rating for each round you play that is based on your score, how the field is playing, and how the actual course is rated (it can be pretty complex when you look into how the PDGA ratings work).
If you are not a member of the PDGA, click here to sign up.
Unsure of what division to play in? You can always ask our staff and we can help guide you through that process.
The main thing is stay cool, calm and collected. We are all beginners at times in our lives. Playing disc golf can be one of the most exhilarating experiences and we guarantee you will have even more fun finding a greater sense of community here that is better than your grandpa’s bowling league (or not, grandpa is really cool).
